The population of older adults in communities around the world is growing rapidly.  According to the World Health Organization (WHO),  the proportion of the global population over age 60 is expected to double between 2006 and 2050; 3 out of 5 people will live in urban areas.  In Dedham, 41% of  residents are projected to be age 55 or older by 2030.
It is critical for communities to create age friendly physical and social environments that promote health and independence across the lifespan. The WHO Age-Friendly Cities guide features  8 domains that must be addressed to best meet the needs of aging communities.
