Communities across the country are recognizing the critical value
of building and maintaining walkability.

The benefits of a walkable community are far reaching and include improved health and wellbeing; increased social engagement; economic growth and reduced pollution. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, communities must build or enhance environments which promote safe and convenient opportunities to walk and wheelchair roll.  See the full report published by the Department of Health and Human Services here.
WALKABILITY RESOURCES
Collaboration is underway amongst experts from various sectors including public health, transportation, and community planning. Click here to view Livable Dedham's walkability audit with expert Mark Fenton. Mark works with organizations and communities around the country to build environments, policies, and programs that help to create places where people increasingly walk, roll, and use public transit.  A follow up discussion forum of the walkability audit can be viewed by here.
